1. Witnesses to the moment: Workers' voices

Testo originale: Washington, Mike Walter, USA Today, on the road when a jet slammed into the Pentagon: "I was sitting in the northbound on 27 and the traffic was, you know, typical rush-hour -- it had ground to a standstill. I looked out my window and I saw this plane, this jet, an American Airlines jet, coming. And I thought, 'This doesn't add up, it's really low.' "And I saw it. I mean it was like a cruise missile with wings. It went right there and slammed right into the Pentagon. "Huge explosion, great ball of fire, smoke started billowing out. And then it was chaos on the highway as people tried to either move around the traffic and go down, either forward or backward. "We had a lady in front of me, who was backing up and screaming, 'Everybody go back, go back, they've hit the Pentagon.' "It was just sheer terror."

2. 911 TRIBUTE: September 11, 2001 - A Day in Infamy

Continuavo a mormorare 'Oh, mio Dio, mio Dio'. Era surreale. Il traffico si era fermato. Una donna urlava 'Tornate indietro, tornate indietro. Hanno colpito il Pentagono!'. Era semplicemente un pandemonio. Accostai e corsi a vedere cosa potevo vedere. Scoppiai in lacrime.
Testo originale: Mike Walter, 46, correspondent, USA Today Live television: "This morning the traffic near the Pentagon was just crawling along. I looked out the window and saw a plane coming over, loud and very low. I could read the "AA" on its side. It looked like it was 20, 30 ft. up in the air. It was coming in a direct path to the Pentagon. I started to say to myself, 'This plane is going to crash.' It disappeared behind the trees, and there was a massive explosion. I kept muttering, 'Ohmigod, ohmigod.' It was surrealistic. The traffic had stopped. A woman was screaming, 'Turn around, turn around. The Pentagon has been hit!' It was just pandemonium. I pulled over and ran to see what I could see. There was debris from the jet on the overpass. I was watching the military personnel set up a triage. These tarps, red and green and yellow. And flags. They were running around with stretchers. All of a sudden they grabbed them and started running for the Pentagon. Three or four military officers came running up saying, 'You've got to get back! Another plane's been hijacked and is heading our way.' People were saying it was 25 minutes away, others said 25 miles away. Then an F-16 came screaming by the Pentagon, and people cheered. There was a staff sergeant standing next to me saying, 'What do they do if it's a passenger plane and they shoot it down?' I tried to stay busy, tried to work (filing television reports). When all this was over, an Army guy came over and said, 'The FBI want to talk with you.' I dissolved into tears. He said, 'Don't worry about it. You're in a state of shock.' "Psychologically this is pretty jarring. So often (reporters) show up, and the yellow tape is up and it's after the fact. To be there and watch it was very tough."

3. Digipress Interview

Testo originale: "...it turned and came around in front of the vehicle and it clipped one of these light poles ... and slammed right into the Pentagon right there." "Now there are some people who say that it skipped and went into the Pentagon and it may have gone that way, but that’s not what I saw. What I saw was the jet went very low into the Pentagon and it went straight." "It seemed like it was a slow, graceful bank and then once it straightened out, that's when it sped up." "...you could see chunks of the wreckage on the ground, pieces of the plane.... It literally disintegrated on impact. It hit, and as it went into the side of the building it sheared off the wings." ... a cruise missile with wings? "I said that as a metaphor. To me it was like a missile was fired at a building. It exploded as you'd imagine a missile to explode. ... It was an American Airlines jet. And I watched it go into the building. I saw the big 'AA' on the side..."

4. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (Lexis-Nexis)

Vidi un grande aereo argenteo e quella doppia "AA".
Testo originale: ...I saw a big silver plane and those double A's.

5. New York Remembers September 11; Wall Street Five Years Later 12/11/2001

Testo originale: JAMIE MCINTYRE, CNN SENIOR PENTAGON CORRESPONDENT: ... on September 11, that an army of reporters watched the aftermath of the attack on the Pentagon. Now, Mike Walter was driving on this road and had a first hand look. What do you recall about that day? MIKE WALTER, PENTAGON CRASH WITNESS: I just remember being stuck in traffic. I remember seeing the jet above me and starting to bank, and then it started screaming towards the Pentagon, a huge explosion, gigantic fireball. And I was just sitting there in stunned disbelief. (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, 2001) WALTER: ... like a -- a cruise missile with wings went right there and slammed right into the Pentagon. (END VIDEO CLIP) MCINTYRE: Now, your description on CNN five years ago, comparing the impact to like a cruise missile hitting the building has shown up on Internet conspiracy sites. What do you say to the doubters? WALTER: Well, there's no doubt in my mind it was an American Airlines jet. What I was trying to say that day to you, was that this pilot, whoever was piloting that jet, had turned it into a weapon. I mean, there was no doubt about it. It was aiming for the Pentagon. It was a weapon of destruction. MCINTYRE: Now, you're a reporter, but that day, you didn't have a cell phone? (LAUGHTER) WALTER: That's -- that's true. I didn't have a cell phone, and I didn't have a camera. And now I have one that does both, and I wish I had this on September 11. (END VIDEOTAPE) MCINTYRE: Mike Walter now works for local station Channel 9 here in Washington. I can relate to him showing up on these conspiracy sites, because, if you search the Internet, you will also find a clip of me saying that there's no evidence a plane hitting anywhere near the Pentagon. But what they don't tell you is that quote is taken out of context. I was asked a question about whether a plane could have crashed short of the Pentagon or near the Pentagon. I said, no, not near the Pentagon, only at the Pentagon. But it just goes to show you how these things go out on the Internet and then are perpetuated.

6. 9/11 and the Pentagon Attack: What Witnesses Described

Testo originale: “I looked up and saw the underbelly of the jet as it gracefully banked, then I watched in shock as the jet basically lined up the Pentagon in its sights and began to scream towards the mammoth structure.” “I looked out my window and I saw this plane, this jet, an American airlines jet, coming… I looked up and saw the underbelly of the jet as it gracefully banked… I saw a big silver plane and those double A’s… I knew it was an American Airlines passenger jet. I watched as it continued to dip from the sky, diving towards the Pentagon. There are some trees that are adjacent to 27 the road I was stuck on, so the jet went out of sight momentarily. Then I picked it up… I was surprised at how graceful and slow the banking of the jet appeared to be, and how quickly it accelerated after it had lined up the Pentagon.” “I rolled down the window and heard the sound of the jet overhead… I watched in shock as the jet basically lined up the Pentagon in its sights and began to scream towards the mammoth structure.” “I saw this plane, this jet, an American airlines jet, coming. And I thought, ‘This doesn’t add up, it’s really low.’ “And I saw it. I mean it was like a cruise missile with wings… [years later:] I said it was like a cruise missile with wings. I never imagined for a moment that a statement like that would come back to haunt me over and over again. A French author would come out with a book describing in detail the conspiracy theory and he would use that quote out of context to help promote his conclusions. I was very angry about all of this, and I remain angry about it today.” “It turned and came around in front of the vehicle and it clipped one of these light poles…” “It was an American airlines jet. And I watched it go into the building. I saw the big ‘AA’ on the side…” “What I saw was the jet went very low into the Pentagon and it went straight… I just remember most that it struck very low into the Pentagon.” “As I got out of the car and made my way towards the Pentagon I saw pieces of wreckage on the ground. Your natural instinct is to reach down and pick up the pieces and look at them. But I decided against it, because I knew that the wreckage was evidence… I didn’t see a significant amount of debris. I just remember two things about this. One was the piece of wreckage I described earlier and the instinct to pick it up. Then I remember at some point later in the morning seeing a guy holding a piece of wreckage next to his head with the Pentagon in the background smiling and having his picture taken. I can’t describe for you the rage I felt. I unleashed on the guy and told him that he had no business doing what he was doing and that this was evidence and he should have just left it where he found it.”

It never occurred to me that anyone could ever doubt what happened here, based on all the evidence").

Testo originale: Hi there, my name is Mike Walter and I work at USA Today, Channel 9, in Washington DC, and there's been a lot written on the internet about me and what I witnessed and saw on september 11, 2001 and so I'm here to set the record straight. A lot of what's come out on the internet has been basically a quote that I gave to Jamie McIntyre (that) was seen and has been taken out of context, used in a best selling book in France that has supported claims that a missile actually hit the Pentagon when in fact it was an American Airlines jet that I saw going into the Pentagon on september 11. In fact here you saw part of the interview I gave to Jamie McIntyre and as you can see if you take it into the full context it's obvious I was talking about a jet hitting the Pentagon and NOT a cruise missile. "I saw this plane, this jet, an American Airlines jet, coming. And I thought, 'This doesn't add up, it's really low.' And I saw it... Well... I mean it was like a cruise missile with wings. It went right there and slammed right into the Pentagon." One of the other things it's talked about on the internet is the fact that I witnessed it as to the number of other people from USA Today and one of the things I've seen written is "oh... whow... What's going on, there are other USA today people gathering for picnic at the Pentagon?". You should probably know that the Pentagon at the time was located about 9 minutes away from USA Today's headquarters in Rosslyn. It's since moved that to Tysons corner, but at the time it was the way that we all went to work each day. We drove by the Pentagon. So it was a common sight for us. One of the things that really bothers me is the fact that people constantly are calling me and emailing me and want informations about it and this (is why?) I'm not happy to talk to 'em all... But a lot of them say that (well you know) physics just say that it's just impossible what happened, but what happened is pretty obvious: the force of this jet hitting the Pentagon, about 500 miles an hour... when something hits a concrete structure like that... you know this belief that the wings would go in is just ridiculous, what I saw was the actual jet going in with the wings folded back like this, so that's why when you look at that hole you say: Oh well that's not big enough! Well, that's why! The wings were not strong enough to withstand the impact, they folded back and that's why the jet went in, and that's why the hole that you see isn't as large as you want imagine in another structure. Basically the only reason why I'm doing this is because, over the last five years I've been getting a lot of phone calls, emails and my words have been twisted and I figured if you're going to the internet for your information, go and find the right information, and that's why I've talked to you here. One other suggestion, if you get the chance, pick up the book "Covering catastrophe", it's basically the account of what happened on that day from the journalists who witnessed it. I wasn't the only one who saw what happened that day. Read the book, get more information, keep an open mind, but always try to get the facts.
